Common conventions of horror

 Some of the most conventions that we see in today's horror stories are: 

Night time. Since most ghostly events occur at night, nighttime is possibly the most frequently used setting for horror films. Beauty and tragedy are in the natural darkness, and nothing is predictable when the sky is completely dark.



 Fog and mist, In outdoor nighttime scenes in horror films, fog and mist are frequently employed to envelop the location with a mass of dense air that impairs your vision and creates a sense of being trapped. Shivers are also induced by the knowledge that there is something hazardous in the fog.


Abandoned places, they usually have a lot of shadows which adds to the vulnerability that such places display. They emphasise on the unsettling feeling as there is little to know about the place. 



teenagers, a lot of the horror movies that we see today their main characters are mostly teenagers and the story revolves around how they managed to land themselves in such a situation. They are viewed as easy targets, as their young minds are easy to manipulate. They are seen as too trusting and naive.
